International Ballet Stars Yuan Yuan Tan, Dorothée Gilbert and Ako Konda Gather in Hong Kong

China Everbright Limited (“Everbright”, stock code: 165.HK) sponsored the “International Gala of Stars 2019”, a production by the Hong Kong Ballet, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Hong Kong Ballet. The performance took place from 31 October to 1 November 2019 at the Grand Theatre of Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. This year, the event was honoured to have many globally renowned ballet stars perform a series of astonishing classical and modern ballet performances alongside dancers with the Hong Kong Ballet, including Yuan Yuan Tan, a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet; Dorothée Gilbert, French ballerina with the Paris Opera Ballet; Ako Kondo, a principal dancer with the Australian Ballet; Marcelo Gomes, international ballet star and a former principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre; Osiel Gouneo, a principal dancer with the Bavarian State Ballet; Vitor Luiz, a former principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet; and Matthew Golding, a guest performer with the Bavarian State Ballet as well as a former principal dancer with the Royal Ballet and Dutch National Ballet.

Following the success of the “First International Gala of Stars” last year that garnered wide critical acclaim, Everbright was once again the title sponsor of the Gala this year. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Hong Kong Ballet, the production dazzled audiences as it marked this special historic milestone.

As a long-term partner of the Hong Kong Ballet, Everbright has sponsored several productions since 2015, including “The Nutcracker”, “Swan Lake”, “Don Quixote”, the Ballet China Tour, the “First International Gala of Stars” and “Giselle”. This year marks the fifth consecutive year that Everbright is sponsoring a Hong Kong Ballet production and bringing the best ballet performance possible to Hong Kong audiences. Everbright is committed to continuously supporting local art activities and promoting fine art to the general public.

In addition, Everbright is also a sponsor of the Hong Kong Ballet’s other popular ballet production, “The Great Gatsby”. The show, which also has the full support of the Hong Kong SAR Government, will participate in the Mainland China tour, “Festival Hong Kong 2019 – A Cultural Extravaganza@Shanghai”, in mid-November. “The Great Gatsby” premiered in Hong Kong in February this year, selling out tickets for all five shows and captivating close to 5,000 viewers in the audiences, as well as dance critics. With Academy Awards winner Timmy Yip designing the costumes and backdrop, and Billy Novick’s Blue Syncopators providing live accompaniment, multiple-award-winning blues singer E. Faye Butler, Guest Chief Artist Matthew Golding and tap dancer Tap Jiang Shaofeng will dedicate their performances to bringing audiences back to the dazzling 1920s of New York’s upper class.

As a Chinese financial institution rooted in Hong Kong, Everbright always strives to fulfil its corporate social responsibility. For the fourth consecutive year, grass-root families in the New Territories in Hong Kong were able to enjoy ballet performances through donations made to the “Accessibility Fund” of the Hong Kong Ballet. This year, a total of 40 people from two charitable institutions, “Glorious Light Neighbourhood Centre” and “Pok Oi Hospital Wai Yin Association Family Multiple Intelligences Centre”, received free tickets to daytime showings of “Swan Lake” on 3 November, so they may explore the wonders of classical ballet.
