China Everbright Limited (“Everbright”, stock code: 165.HK) volunteer team together with a local social enterprise “Yum Cha Together” co-organised a visit to “Loving Kids Community Service Center”, which serves and provides support to the underprivileged families in Sham Shui Po. With the support and participation of the Vice Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Council, Mr. Chan Wai Ming JP, and Sham Shui Po District Councillor Ms. Joephy Chan, the volunteers expressed their love and care to the under-resourced families through interactive games and understanding of their current situation, as well as hoping to improve their livelihood leverage on the power of the District Council.
During the activity, Founder of Loving Kids Community Service Center Ms. Iona Chow introduced the background, services and operational difficulties of the Center, the participating families also shared their stories. Everbright volunteers then had a drawing session themed “My Desired Home” with the children and taught them how to present their work in Putonghua, to let them have a chance to use different language to communicate in daily life.
After that, all participants went to a Chinese restaurant nearby to enjoy a tea gathering. Through various interesting interactive games, the participants understood more about the unique and traditional “yum cha” culture in Hong Kong. At the debriefing session, staffs and families in Loving Kids Community Service Centre thanked Everbright’s participation and its donation to the center which supports their work so that more under-resourced families could be served in the future.
District Councillors Mr. Chan Wai Ming and Ms. Joephy Chan both felt grateful to have participated in the volunteer activity. The volunteer service did not only give them a personal experience in understanding the current situation of the community, it could also help improve the livelihood of the underprivileged families through the power of the District Council, aiming to build a harmonious and joyous community together.
