On 12th May, A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Wen Chuan County in Sichuan Province, resulting in a significant loss of lives and property. The earthquake has already caused tens of thousands of causalities in the affected areas. China Everbright Limited, like all those who are trying their best to help, showed great compassion, generosity, and enthusiastic contributions. 

 

We called for a donation on May 14. Shortly after the announcement, we had up to 175 employees participated in the contribution. Some colleagues went immediately to ATMs to withdraw cash, and many donated over a thousand HK dollars and some donated several thousands HK dollars. By the end of the day, the total donation amounted to 180, 290 HK dollars and 5,300 RMB. 

 

To encourage employees' contributions, the China Everbright Charitable Foundation offered a one-to-one ratio, and pledged to donate the same amount of 185,590 HK dollars. All colleagues once again showed the world the true meaning of "love" in helping those who are suffering from the earthquake and its aftermath. The foundation therefore played a double effect of charity. 

 

To date, China Everbright Limited alone has already donated a total of 1.5 million HK dollar. Together with all contributions from our colleagues, we have contributed a total of 1,865,880 HK dollars and 5,300 RMB in donation. The money has been handed to China Everbright Group Hong Kong headquarters, then the remittance reached the Beijing headquarters of China Everbright Group on the same day and delivered to Sichuan earthquake affected areas directly. 

 

We hope that with our limited help, peoples who suffer in the earthquake will overcome all the difficulties and rebuild their homeland.
